Loan requests and deposit of works

How to prepare a loan or deposit request?

The Musée du quai Branly holds 285,000 objects which can be browsed according to an infinite number of themes. To help you in your research, all these works may be consulted on the institution website.
You may come and present your project to the Director of the Heritage Department and Collections, Anne-Solène Rolland, in order to facilitate your application and before making any official loan request.

how to formulate a loan or deposit request?

Loan requests must be submitted to the Musée du quai Branly at least 9 months before the opening of the exhibition. Each request will be carefully studied according to the following criteria:

  • Scientific relevance of the exhibition.
  • State of conservation of the requested work, its fragility and whether it can travel or be exhibited.
  • The security, conservation and reception conditions offered by the requesting institution.
  • The quality and legal status of the borrowing institution and the training of its personnel.
  • The status of the work and any possible restrictive loan conditions (deposit from another institution, donation with conditions, etc.).
  • The availability of the work (work in permanent exhibition, work committed to another exhibition project, etc.).

Addressee

The official request should be made by letter addressed to the President of the Musée du quai Branly:
Emmanuel Kasarhérou
President of the musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac
222 rue de l'Université
75 343 Paris cedex 7

Contents of the request

  • Name of the institution and person responsible (director and/or curator of the exhibition)
  • Final title of the exhibition
  • Dates, locations and details of possible tours of the event
  • List of works with the inventory number and designation of the object (the collection is available online)
  • Exhibition conditions (facility report) If the institution does not possess such a report, a questionnaire is available online. Open and download the questionnaire (PDF document, 75 KB)
  • The content of the exhibition (synopsis, scenographic draft) and its context (other associated lenders, total number of works, etc.)
  • Email and telephone details for the different contacts (curator, production manager, floor manager, etc.)

In the event of a touring exhibition, a group request including the different dates, locations and individuals responsible for the exhibition at each destination is recommended.

examination of the request

After receipt of the official letter, an email confirming reception of the request will be sent to you by the loans, deposits and acquisitions centre at the Musée du quai Branly  (sarah[point]lagrevol[at]quaibranly.fr) which carries out the investigation and follow-up of applications.

The request is examined by the loan and deposit commission at the Musée du quai Branly, which meets regularly (every two months except during the summer).

After approval, an official letter of acceptance of the loan is sent to you. This is accompanied by the agreement governing the provision of objects by the Musée du quai Branly,

This replaces the traditional loan sheets in all aspects and contains the following annexes:

  • Minimal insurance guarantees required
  • Facility report provided by the borrower as part of its request
