From the Jordan River to the Congo River

Art and Christianity in Central Africa

Content

From the Jordan River to the Congo River: Art and Christianity in Central Africa illustrates the unique history through which the religions and political traditions of different populations of Central Africa incorporated their encounter with Christianity over more than five centuries by reinterpreting elements that were alien to them, whether beliefs, rituals and/or objects. These works (crucifixes, statuettes of Saint Antoine, figures inspired from the cult of the Virgin Mary, etc.) thus reveal the artistic and cultural abundance of the region.
