The exhibition "Tattoo" returns to the sources of tattooing and presents the renewal of this phenomenon in its now permanent and globalised manifestation.
About the exhibition
Taking an anthropological, historical, geographic and artistic approach, the exhibition explores the different uses and functions of tattooing across cultures and eras: an ancestral practice, a sign of identity, an object of fascination and contemporary artistic creation, tattoos play multiple social and anthropological roles which take on a multitude of representations.
The exhibition is composed of over 150 historic and contemporary works from around the world. Specifically designed for the occasion, it notably presents 16 silicone models placed in the capable hands of some of the masters of the art, as well as around twenty tattoos painted on kakemonos. This exhibition places the emphasis on syncretic styles, the artist's process and the exchanges between tattoo artists worldwide.
