Résumé
The Lu are a very small ethnic group located in the province of La Chau in northern part of Vietnam, they are somehow related to the Tai Kadai of northern Laos. The most distinctive detail in their look is the women s black teeth. On this CD you can listen to 2 flute players, the bamboo tube is inserted inside the left part of the mouth, each man has a different sized flute, the larger one is called bei ma, the smaller one bei boo, their playing goes along with a singer, man or woman. Tracks 1 to 3 were recorded in Sapa on a sunday when those women come to sell some embroderies, from their hometown in La chau district. Other tracks were recorded in ban Pape, outside of Binlu.
