; One of the problems raised by the practice of psychiatry in Morocco is that of interpenetration in a single theoretical corpus consisting of clinical experience and an ethnological view of mental disorders. This twin approach constitutes the methodological basis of the present research and thesis. While working as a psychologist at the psychiatric hospital in Rabat-Sale, the author decided to investigate the various therapy techniques used in 'traditional' psychiatry, a subject with which he had not previously been familar. His first step was to isolate certain pathognomic signs specific to possession as a psychic disorder with a view to distinguishing possession from hysteria, a nevrosis which is badly defined and inappropriately diagnosed in psychiatry. In the second part of this study he applied the ethnological information which he had acquired while treating hospitalized patients in psychology department at Rabat-Sale.
