Résumé
'In 1960, the town of San Juan Amatlán (State of Oaxaca) donated two pictorial documents to the National Library of Anthropology and History, although their contents do not refer to that community. The Lienzo de San Lucas Yatao -which belongs to the place its name indicates, now an uninhabited village- is a pictorial manuscript depicting property titles; territorial boundaries and the genealogy that refers to the descendants of the Corregidor of Villa Alta in Oaxaca, Cristóbal de Chávez, owner of the lands of San Lucas Yatao, and the Lienzo Yatini is -it is not known which town it refers to, but it is probably Yatau- is a rudimentary map of the territory of an unknown community, but possibly representing San Lucas Yatau. No exact date is known for both documents, although at the beginning of the 17th century, the population of Yatau moved to Amatlán, taking the two canvases with them. Both are strong proofs of the capacity for adaptation and creativity of the Mesoamerican peoples in the face of new needs, without losing their ancient traditions.'
