Résumé
'This book compiles 13 works that deal with different aspects of the importance of reddish shells in ancient Mexico, Peru and Mesoaamerica. They address the biological characteristics of some of the species, their obtaining, circulation and production, their use as a prestigious asset, their symbolism and even their economic value. 'In the latest work of this compilation, Adrián Velázquez, Emiliano Melgar and Anne Marie Hocquenghem carry out a comparison between the tapachtli and the mullu in Mesoamérica and the Andean Area, on several aspects: species used, ways of obtaining on the coasts, circulation routes to inland sites, elaborate objects, manufacturing techniques and symbolism. The researchers find interesting similarities, but also differences that occur over time in these two major cultural areas.'
