Résumé
Indiqué sur la jaquette : In 1970 filmmaker Colette Piault traveled to the Saint Omer area of Northern France to document a particular moment of recognition for the young people who lived and worked as market gardeners in the Audomarois Fenland. Devised and shot in close collaboration with this group of eight local fenlanders, the resulting film is a meditation on the hard, practical questions the emrging generation must ask themselves about the social and economic problems facing the unique form of agriculture they have inherited. 40 years later Return to Brouck revisits the fenlanders of Saint Omer. Market gardening and breeding remain the primary pursuits of the group, but much has changed in this land crisscrossed with water ways. By 2010 the number of farms has diminished from 200 to 40, and what was once a closed community is now permeable to scores od outsiders drawn to the region by waterfowl hunting, fishing and tourism. Grappeling with ecology, preservation and development as the new and pressing concerns of day, the aging farmers yet again must face the uncertain future of their niche within the Fenland.
