; Graduated as architect, Yves Laloy drops his profession in 1952 for his passion: painting. André Breton discovers his works in 1958, but Yves Laloy chooses to remain a lonesome artist, developing his researches in two diverging directions: geometric or biomorphic compositions, and figurative art. Geometric compositions express the tensions of his inner world and also an enigmatic perception of the outer universe: André Breton considers these compositions as the expression of clairvoyance. Due to the dualism of his works, the artist can be related both to abstraction – but with proper exclusive inspiration sources - and also to surrealism, from which he appropriates some themes, including humour. The daring pictorial style of the strictly geometric or biomorphic works is astonishing; the paintings reveal a surrealistic vision of the world. In his figurative works, Laloy incorporates surrealistic themes, inventing a proper iconography, displaying grotesque and terrifying creatures. He also deals with universal themes, but in a surrealistic prospect. In both cases, words are joined to the paintings. Using the connections between images and phonetics, Laloy invents with humour a strange, irrational world. The work of this creative artist is still to be fully perceived. Rich and diverse, it is an exception in the history of art.
