Résumé
This title contains a detailed study by Vivianne Baeke of the Royal Museum of Central Africa in which she explains the symbolism of the ivory whistles and mortars of the Pende peoples. (article in French). Marc Felix gives a survey of ivory sculptures made by (amongst others) Mbuun, Mbala, Pindi andYaka peoples. Most of the Hungaan 'kiteki' pendants known were tracked down by Christine Valluet, and the rare ivories made by the Chokwe people are discussed here by Dr. Manuel Jordan
