Résumé
Amongst the Nigerian Igbo the secret society OWU is responsible for times of sowing and harvesting. The initiation rites together with the Agugu new years festival, take 24 days, during which the ancestors are called upon, the rites are explained to the newly-initiated acolytes (for example the 10 year old Chidi) and the OWU masks are seen. The significance of OWU is explained by Okwa the poet, Ajie, one of the village elders and Eze Nyanyi, the head man.
