The DVD comprises four films of the Encyclopaedia Cinematographica: E 1286 Akha (Thailand, Chieng Rai Province) - Men''s Dances; E 1287 Akha (Thailand, Chieng Rai Province) - Girls'' Dances; 1301 Akha (Thailand, Chieng Rai Province) - Dog Sacrifice at House Building and E 1302 Akha (Thailand, Chieng Rai Province) - Sword Dance. ; Akha (Thailand, Chieng Rai Province) : men''s dances : In full tribal dress and richly adorned with silver ornaments, seven Akha perform a ritual circular dance, moving in an anticlockwise direction, and accompanied by the dance-leader on a cheng. Girld of the Akha village, likewise adorned for dancing, are standing in the background. ; Akha (Thailand, Chieng Rai-Provinz) : girls'' dances : The film shows several dances and games of the Akha girls. a) 'Kasatscho': a row, singing, balancing of the knees, mincing-steps; b) 'Sabumina': a row, singing, hopping with joint knees; c) 'Selung-mo': round dance, a step to the side, twice balancing; d) Standing in a circle singing, rocking with the hips; e) standing in a circle, singing, clapping of the hands, bending of the knees and hips; f) 'Amu-patsala' (hopping on one leg): hop-dancing on one leg with shanks hooked. ; Akha (Thailand, Chieng Rai Province) : dog sacrifice at house building : In the scaffolding of a house which is being built a dog is sacrificed in order to obtain a guardian spirit for the future home. ; Akha (Thailand, Chieng Rai Province) : sword dance : An Akha, in full tribal dress and richly adorned with silver jewelry, performs a dance in which he executes stylized combat movements with the sword and scabbard he carries in his hands. With his feet, legs, knees, and hips he takes the postures which are customary in Akha male-dancing.
