Résumé
With the aid of a five-part film series the children''s own active dance repertoire in various different countries has been meticulously documented. The sequences were shot with German and Turkish children in Germany as well as with children in neighbouring Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands during 1981 as well as from 1990 to 1992. Classified according to a typology of basic patterns, the comprehensive games and dances exemplified here not only reflect the enthusiasm, independence and creativity of the children but also enable dance researchers, ethnomusicologists and cultural anthropologists to make interesting comparisons. ; Tänze der Kinder aus dem südlichen Niedersachsen : In the village and in schoolyards children of eight to twelve perform traditional and modified dances and dancing games such as dances for two, round dances, line dances, clapping games. ; Kindertänze türkischer Kinder in Deutschland : Ten to twelve year old children of Turkish families perform games and dances with handclapping and expressive movements of the body as well as recitations and singing. The repertory is orginally Turkish and is now also practised in Germany - here on the playground of the German primary school attended by the children. The ten examples presented include a counting-out rhyme, three clapping games and two games in circular formation, a circle dance and two dances in line, and alternating reciting. Besides the Turkish elements the examples show the common patterns of children''s repertory and its combination of movement with speech or singing. Moreover in the actual performance common elements of European coherence can be distinguished. ; Kindertänze in den Niederlanden : Eight to twelve year old children clap, sing and dance on their school playground, showing their traditional and adapted children''s dances and games. The documentary includes a counting-out rhyme, a duet dance, clapping games, round dances and rank dances, talking games, skipping and a chain. ; Kindertänze in Belgien : Eight to twelve year old children clap, sing and dance on their school playgrounds, showing their traditional and adapted children''s dances and singing games. The documentary includes clapping games, two counting-out rhymes, several round dances (e. g. the bridge game) as well as antiphonal chants and skipping. (Recorded in Leuven, Brabant, at the Basisschool 'De Kraal', Herent, and the Basisschool Lagere en Kleuterschool, Heverlee.) ; Kindertänze in Dänemark : Seven to thirteen year old children clap, sing and dance on their school playground, showing their traditional and adapted children''s dances and singing games. The documentary includes two counting-out rhymes, numerous clapping games, several round dances (e. g. the bridge game) as well as rank dances.
