Il s'agit ici d'une des sculptures qui ont été commandées à Malvina Hoffman à l'occasion de l'exposition organisée par le Field Museum of Natural History le 6 juin 1933, intitulée "The Races of Mankind" et qui s'est tenue dans le Chauncey Keep Memorial Hall jusqu'en 1969.
