Blending music and dance, the virtuoso flautist Magic Malik and his fellow performers take us on a journey into Cameroonian traditions.
About the performance
Far from exotic imagery, the musical journey designed by the shape-shifting flautist Magic Malik and the bassist Hilaire Penda is an invitation to understand Cameroonian culture in its full wealth and diversity. Like an adventure by rail, stopovers at train stations take place successively like musical interludes conducive to discovery, sharing and the mingling of influences.
Blended with the mixed sounds of fula and traverse flutes, bass, percussion and voices, the choreography of the charismatic dancer Merlin Nyakam pushes the frontiers of travel further and further, while tracing a perfect link between tradition and modernity.
Performance created at the Fondation Royaumont on 2 September 2017 with support from the SACEM (French Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers) and the sponsorship of KPMG and Groupe ADP
