A sensitive immersion into the reality of the inventory of Kanak heritage and the meticulous work of investigation carried out by Roger Boulay over two decades.
Roger Boulay worked for the Agency for the Development of Kanak Culture from 1979 to 1998 and was given an exceptional mission by Jean-Marie Tjibaou and his team: making an Inventory of the Dispersed Kanak Heritage (IPKD) in museums and public collections throughout the world. He carried out this important inventory work in close collaboration with Emmanuel Kasarhérou, today President of the Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac Museum. A meticulous survey documented by more than 3,000 sketches and fine watercolours of the objects inventoried.
Through a dialogue between the original sketchbooks and the works kept in the museum, the exhibition proposes to take visitors into the "inventory adventure", to understand the concrete reality and to highlight the stages, the players and the memorial stakes of this colossal mission for the preservation of New Caledonia's heritage.
An exhibition presented with the support of Fondation Martine Aublet, under the aegis of the Fondation de France.
