Since its creation in 2007, on the initiative of the musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac, the Photoquai biennial highlights photography from across the world, presenting a view of elsewhere seen from elsewhere. In four editions, 200 photographers, the majority unknown in France, have been presented to the great international public.
About the biennial
elsewhere seen from elsewhere
Its original approach consists of allocating artistic curatorships to foreign professionals, which results in the choice of 40 photographers, in creating a number of networks relating to exhibitions, and in involving Parisian partner institutions and particularly contemporary art galleries dedicated to international photography.
For each edition of the Biennial, the musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac names an artistic director responsible for selecting the programming framework desired for the event and for leading the network of curators for the different predefined geographical areas. For each of these areas, artistic collaborators in the field are responsible for prospecting and discovering photographic talents unknown in Europe and thus creating a pre-selection of artists and works.
